AN ACT
amending section 13‑2907.01, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to false reporting.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Section 13-2907.01, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:
13-2907.01. False reporting to law enforcement agencies; classification
A. It is unlawful for a person to knowingly make to a law enforcement agency of either this state or a political subdivision of this state a false, fraudulent or unfounded report or statement or to knowingly misrepresent a fact for the purpose of interfering with the orderly operation of a law enforcement agency or misleading a peace officer.
B. A violation of this section is a class 1 misdemeanor, except that it is a class 6 felony if the person makes the false report based on malice toward a victim because of the victim's identity in a group listed in section 41‑1750, subsection A, paragraph 3 or because of the defendant's perception of a victim's identity in a group listed in section 41‑1750, subsection A, paragraph 3.
