WHEREAS, Melynn Hunt is retiring from the Lubbock Independent | ||
School District in 2013, drawing to a close a notable career in | ||
public education and athletics that has spanned nearly four | ||
decades; and | ||
WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Tech University, Ms. Hunt has | ||
spent 19 years with Lubbock ISD, and she has also worked for several | ||
other Texas school districts as a coach, teacher, and | ||
administrator; she enjoyed great success in leading girls' | ||
basketball teams, coaching at Lubbock Cooper, Plainview, and Hale | ||
Center and holding the posts of girls' athletic director, | ||
basketball coach, and track coach for the Jacksboro and Haskell | ||
school districts; she guided the Monterey High basketball team | ||
while employed with Lubbock ISD in the 1990s, and she also coached | ||
at Smylie Wilson Middle School; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Hunt's overall record stands at 527 wins and 203 | ||
losses during 25 years as a basketball coach, and her teams reached | ||
the state tournament on four different occasions; she was named | ||
district coach of the year seven times and garnered additional | ||
coaching honors from newspapers in Fort Worth, Abilene, and | ||
Lubbock; highly respected by her peers, she was the Texas director | ||
of the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association | ||
and held the offices of president and regional director for the | ||
Texas Girls Coaches Association; in 2009, she was inducted into the | ||
TGCA Hall of Fame; and | ||
WHEREAS, This experienced educator concluded her coaching | ||
career in 2001, when she was appointed as assistant athletic | ||
director for Lubbock ISD; during her impressive tenure in that | ||
role, her responsibilities have included overseeing a range of | ||
different sports at the high school and middle school levels, and | ||
she also distinguished herself when asked to step into the role of | ||
interim athletic director; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the course of nearly four decades, Melynn Hunt | ||
has contributed to the growth of women's athletics while helping | ||
numerous young Texans prepare themselves for the challenges and | ||
opportunities of the future, and her professional achievements will | ||
continue to serve as a positive example for her fellow educators for | ||
many years to come; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Melynn Hunt on her retirement as | ||
assistant athletic director for the Lubbock Independent School | ||
District and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Hunt as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. |
