          tee on Judiciary

                    CONCURRENT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND ASSEMBLY

        proposing  an amendment to article 4 of the constitution, in relation to
          the number of terms a person may serve as governor

     1    Section 1. Resolved (if the Senate concur),  That  article  4  of  the
     2  constitution be amended by adding a new section 2-a to read as follows:
     3    §  2-a.  No person shall be elected to the office of the governor more
     4  than twice, and no person who has held the office of governor, or  acted
     5  as  governor,  for  more  than  two  years of a term to which some other
     6  person was elected governor shall be elected to the office of the gover-
     7  nor more than once; provided that this section shall not  apply  to  any
     8  person  holding  the  office of governor when this section takes effect,
     9  and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of gover-
    10  nor, or acting as governor during the term  within  which  this  section
    11  becomes  operative  from  holding  the  office  of governor or acting as
    12  governor during the remainder of such term.
    13    § 2. Resolved (if the Senate concur), That the foregoing amendment  be
    14  referred  to  the  first regular legislative session convening after the
    15  next succeeding general election of members of  the  assembly,  and,  in
    16  conformity  with  section  1  of  article  19  of  the  constitution, be
    17  published for 3 months previous to the time of such election.
