ROSENTHAL -- read once and referred to the Committee on Mental Health -- recommitted to the Committee on Mental Health in accordance with Assembly Rule 3, sec. 2 -- reference changed to the Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to the creation of a prom and graduation safety program The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The mental hygiene law is amended by adding a new section 2 19.26 to read as follows: 3 § 19.26 Prom and graduation safety program. 4 (a) The office shall establish a prom and graduation safety program 5 within the office, which shall focus upon ensuring the safety of adoles- 6 cents attending their prom and celebrating high school graduation. 7 (b) The commissioner, in conjunction with the department of health, 8 the state education department, and the division of state police, shall 9 develop educational materials for students, educators, and parents and 10 guardians with information and tips on how to keep adolescents safe and 11 healthy, including, but not limited to, the dangers of the use and abuse 12 of alcohol, tobacco, prescription medications, and illicit drugs with a 13 focus on drugs that are prevalent among school-aged youth. Such educa- 14 tional materials, including printable brochures, shall be available on 15 the websites of the office and the state education department and shall 16 be updated annually. 17 § 2.
