STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 3028 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY February 2, 2023 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. REILLY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the appointment of a military liaison to each school district The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision 60 to read as follows: 3 60. The commissioner shall direct that each school district, charter 4 school, and private elementary and secondary school appoint a military 5 liaison for purposes of providing military families with information 6 regarding benefits they may be eligible for under the laws of this 7 state. Such liaison shall provide information to families relating to 8 article sixty-six of this chapter in addition to information relating 9 to, but not limited to, taxes, insurance, state aid, scholarships, 10 social services, and retirement. 11 § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall 12 have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment 13 and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation 14 of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and 15 completed on or before such effective date.
