STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 2961 2017-2018 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY January 23, 2017 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. CURRAN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the creation of a peer to peer mentoring program The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision 56 to read as follows: 3 56. The commissioner is authorized and directed to require all elemen- 4 tary and secondary schools to create peer to peer mentoring programs 5 relating to the implications of drug abuse. Resources, information and 6 counseling related to drug and substance use must be provided to the 7 mentoring programs by each school. Such resources, information and coun- 8 seling may be provided by outside organizations and must be age-appro- 9 priate for school-age children. 10 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
