A RESOLUTION TO DECLARE APRIL 3, 2013, AS KINDNESS STARTS WITH US - PAY IT FORWARD DAY IN MISSISSIPPI AND TO CONGRATULATE THE HARTFIELD ACADEMY FOURTH GRADE STUDENT OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT RESOURCE TEAM FOR WINNING FIRST PLACE IN THE MISSISSIPPI AFFILIATE BOWL AND ADVANCING TO THE FUTURE PROBLEM SOLVERS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE.
WHEREAS, April 3, 2013, is declared "Kindness Starts With
Us - Pay It Forward Day" in the great state of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the Hartfield Academy fourth grade Student Outstanding Achievement Resource (SOAR) Team won first place in the Mississippi Affiliate Bowl for and creating an inspiring community project at school entitled, "Kindness Starts With Us"; and
WHEREAS, what began as a school community project spread phenomenally throughout the lives of Mississippians outside the Hartfield Community, motivating adults and other students to exhibit acts of kindness to strangers, which caused a "Pay It Forward" attitude of kindness to all; and
WHEREAS, as a result of their first place win, this stellar team has advanced to the international competition for the Future Problem Solvers International Conference, which will be held at Indiana University in June; and
WHEREAS, these sharp-witted students will be competing against teams from across the nation and around the globe to create innovative solutions to current and future potential problems in our world; and
WHEREAS, the passion and tenacity of this team along with the inspirational and poignant effects of their "Kindness Starts With Us" project, will not only cause them to capture the number one spot at the conference, but create a global surge to "Pay It Forward" attitude around the world; and
WHEREAS, the mission of SOAR is to nurture creativity and produce students with superior problem-solving skills through the use of critical thinking activities, exploration in fields of interest, and the utilization of technology; and
WHEREAS, the Hartfield Academy team has challenged itself to lead by example by using their intellectual prowess to perform random acts of kindness, which has created a positive impact on their community and other surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, the astute members of the Hartfield Academy winning team are Andrew Banks, Jonah Neeley, Reed Finseth, Mattie Frances Powell, Lauren Noe, Laurence Smith, Tim Zwiers, and Rooks Russell; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor those students who not only work hard academically, but who work hard to positively enhance the lives of other Mississippi students:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby declare April 3, 2013, as "Kindness Starts With Us - Pay It Forward Day" in Mississippi, and congratulate the Hartfield Academy fourth grade Student Outstanding Achievement Resource team for winning the Mississippi Affiliate Bowl and advancing to the Future Problem Solvers International Conference.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Headmaster, Dean of Students, to each member of the winning SOAR team of Hartfield Academy and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
