1.1A Senate resolution
1.2commemorating the 90th birthday on December 21, 2013, for Henry
1.3Tweten of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and commending his years of
1.4outstanding service.
1.5WHEREAS, Henry Tweten has diligently applied himself to the service of the United
1.6States and the State of Minnesota; and
1.7WHEREAS, Henry Tweten has received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in
1.8combat during World War II; and
1.9WHEREAS, Henry Tweten has been awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action
1.10during World War II; and
1.11WHEREAS, Henry Tweten served as a second lieutenant in George Patton's Third Army
1.1280th Infantry Division; and
1.13WHEREAS, Henry Tweten has served as the head of the Minnesota Board of Higher
1.14Education; and
1.15WHEREAS, Henry Tweten has served as the Chairman of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor
1.16Party in the 7th Congressional District of Minnesota; and
1.17WHEREAS, Henry Tweten helped establish Northland Community College in 1971 in
1.18East Grand Forks, Minnesota; and
1.19WHEREAS, Henry Tweten has served on the East Grand Forks City Council for 18 years,
1.20undefeated in city elections; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22honors Henry Tweten of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, for his dedicated service to the people of
1.23the State of Minnesota, the nation, and the democratic process.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.26Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Henry Tweten.
