HOUSE BILL No. 5701

 

 

March 8, 2018, Introduced by Reps. Runestad, Bizon, Vaupel, Hornberger, Lucido and Howell and referred to the Committee on Appropriations.

 

     A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled

 

"The social welfare act,"

 

(MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding section 107a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 107a. (1) The department, in coordination with other

 

state departments, shall develop and implement a program that adds

 

work requirements as a condition of receiving medical assistance

 

under this act. Participation in the program under this section

 

shall be based on the medical assistance recipient's or applicant's

 

ability to participate as determined by the department.

 

     (2) The program developed and implemented under subsection (1)

 

may include a combination of paid work, volunteer work, or

 

education.

 


     (3) All eligible medical assistance recipients and applicants

 

as determined by the department must be participating in the

 

program developed and implemented under subsection (1) by no later

 

than September 15, 2019.

 

     (4) If the department requires a federal waiver to implement

 

the provisions of this section, the department shall apply

 

immediately upon enactment of this section for that federal waiver.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
