| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Paul William Bergeson of Batavia, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on December 10, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson was born in Batavia to Paul and | ||||||
6 | Hazel (Klingberg) Bergeson on September 20, 1927; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Batavia High School in 1945, where he was class president | ||||||
8 | and a track and field star, and attended Illinois State | ||||||
9 | University; he married his high school sweetheart, Ethyl | ||||||
10 | Johnson, in Batavia on August 21, 1948; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson started his teaching career in 1950 | ||||||
12 | at St. Charles High School, where he taught economics and | ||||||
13 | government; he later became the athletic director and head | ||||||
14 | coach for track and field and cross country; he retired from | ||||||
15 | St. Charles High School in 1988 following 38 years of service; | ||||||
16 | and

17 | WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson was honored by the school by having | ||||||
18 | a regional track meet named as the Paul Bergeson Invitational; | ||||||
19 | he was inducted into the Illinois Athletic Directors Hall of | ||||||
20 | Fame and the St. Charles East High School Athletic Hall of | ||||||
21 | Fame; and

1 | WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson was affectionately known as | ||||||
2 | "Peeler" for his passion of fishing and the use of crawfish | ||||||
3 | which he would peel and use as bait; he also liked to camp, | ||||||
4 | hike, and bird watch; he was a member of the National Audubon | ||||||
5 | Society, a devoted family man, an avid outdoorsman, and a | ||||||
6 | teacher in every sense of the word; and

7 | WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson was preceded in death by his | ||||||
8 | parents; his daughter, Barbara Schoo; and his brothers, Richard | ||||||
9 | and Raymond Bergeson; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson is survived by his loving, Ethyl; | ||||||
11 | his children, Bill (Carli) Bergeson, David (Brenda) Bergeson, | ||||||
12 | Carol (Al) Yunkes, and Susan Bergeson; eight grandchildren; and | ||||||
13 | seven great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | Paul William Bergeson and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
17 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Paul Bergeson as an expression of | ||||||
21 | our deepest sympathy.
