Bill Title: Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that, in order to further the prevention of accidents, the Department of Transportation shall conduct a traffic study following the occurrence of any accident involving a fatality that occurs on a State highway. Provides that the study shall include, but not be limited to, consideration of alternative geometric design improvements, traffic control devices, and any other improvements that the Department deems necessary. Provides that the Department shall make the results of the study available to the public on its website. Effective immediately.

1 | AN ACT concerning transportation.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
| ||||||
5 | Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing | ||||||
6 | Section 2705-210 as follows:

7 | (20 ILCS 2705/2705-210) (was 20 ILCS 2705/49.15)
| ||||||
8 | Sec. 2705-210. Traffic control and prevention of | ||||||
9 | accidents. The Department
has the power to develop, | ||||||
10 | consolidate, and coordinate effective
programs
and activities | ||||||
11 | for the advancement of driver education, for the
facilitation | ||||||
12 | of the movement of motor vehicle traffic, and for the
| ||||||
13 | protection and conservation of life and property on the streets | ||||||
14 | and
highways of this State and to advise, recommend, and | ||||||
15 | consult with the
several departments, divisions, boards, | ||||||
16 | commissions, and other agencies
of this State in regard to | ||||||
17 | those programs and activities. The
Department has the power to | ||||||
18 | aid and
assist the counties, cities, towns, and other political | ||||||
19 | subdivisions of
this State in the control of traffic and the | ||||||
20 | prevention of traffic
accidents. That aid and assistance to | ||||||
21 | counties, cities, towns,
and other
political subdivisions of | ||||||
22 | this State shall include assistance with regard
to planning, | ||||||
23 | traffic flow, light synchronizing, preferential lanes for

and carpool parking allocations.

2 | To further the prevention of accidents, the Department | ||||||
3 | shall conduct a traffic study following the occurrence of any | ||||||
4 | accident involving a pedestrian fatality that occurs at an | ||||||
5 | intersection of a State highway. The study shall include, but | ||||||
6 | not be limited to, consideration of alternative geometric | ||||||
7 | design improvements, traffic control devices, and any other | ||||||
8 | improvements that the Department deems necessary. The | ||||||
9 | Department shall make the results of the study available to the | ||||||
10 | public on its website. | ||||||

12 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
13 | becoming law.
