A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO TRAFFIC.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 264, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§264- Highway traffic advisory radio system; rules. To protect the health and safety of the general public and to help alleviate general traffic congestion, the department of transportation shall establish and operate a county-wide highway traffic advisory radio system to advise motorists of updated current traffic conditions in any county having a population of greater than three hundred thousand individuals. The department shall adopt rules to implement the purpose of this section, including determining the appropriate traffic advisory radio system."
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2011-2012 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2012-2013 to establish and operate a county-wide highway traffic advisory radio system to advise motorists of updated current traffic conditions in any county having a population of greater than three hundred thousand individuals.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of transportation for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2011.
