A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Rosalind Smith Westmoreland; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mrs. Rosalind Smith Westmoreland on January 17, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Westmoreland was born on October 3, 1919, a beloved daughter of the late Francis and Rosa Lee Hunt Smith; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Claxton High School, Mrs. Westmoreland diligently and conscientiously devoted her time, talents, and energy to the original Bank of Ellijay, retiring after 44 years of honorable service and as an assistant vice president; and

WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Westmoreland was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ellijay, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Westmoreland was united in love and marriage to the late Bill Westmoreland and was blessed with the love of her remarkable children, Robert and Debbie Westmoreland, David and Elaine Westmoreland, and Hal Westmoreland; her wonderful grandchildren, Nancy Lynn Westmoreland, Rob Westmoreland, Anna Westmoreland, Andrew Westmoreland, Joni Harvey, and Gina Callihan; and her six great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to her family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. Westmoreland will long be remembered for her love of family and friendship, and this loyal mother, sister, grandmother, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Rosalind Smith Westmoreland and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Rosalind Smith Westmoreland.
