CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE—
2023–2024 REGULAR SESSION
Senate Bill
No. 898
Introduced by Senator Skinner |
January 03, 2024 |
An act to add Section 26713 to the Vehicle Code, relating to vehicles.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
SB 898, as introduced, Skinner.
Vehicle equipment: windows.
Existing law provides for various safety standards requiring motor vehicles to be equipped with certain devices, including brakes, headlamps, and safety belts. A violation of the Vehicle Code is punishable as an infraction.
This bill would, beginning on January 1, 2025, require all vehicles sold in California to be equipped with a side window, windshield, back window, and sunroof that allow no more than 2% of ultraviolet A radiation, no more than 2% of ultraviolet B radiation, and no more than 10% of infrared radiation of the incident solar radiation into the vehicle, as specified. By creating a new crime, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program.
The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the
state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement.
This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason.
