AN ACT

 

amending title 12, chapter 5.1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 12-567; relating to health care actions.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 12, chapter 5.1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 12-567, to read:

START_STATUTE12-567.  Required certification for medical malpractice actions; supreme court training and certification

A.  An attorney shall not file a medical malpractice action pursuant to this chapter unless the supreme court certifies the attorney as a medical malpractice attorney.  A judge shall not make a substantive ruling in a medical malpractice action unless the supreme court certifies the judge as a medical malpractice attorney.

B.  The supreme court shall establish a medical malpractice training and certification program for attorneys.  The training shall include the courses of study that the supreme court deems necessary or desirable. END_STATUTE
