AN ACT

 

amending Title 15, chapter 1, article 5, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 15-158; relating to access to school property.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 15, chapter 1, article 5, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 15-158, to read:

START_STATUTE15-158.  Access to school property; sign‑in policy; removal; exemption

A.  A school district or charter school may adopt a policy that requires all persons intending to enter school property for any purpose during school hours, including one hour before the start of school and two hours after the end of school, to first sign in at the school office and show government‑issued identification or company-issued identification and receive approval for entering the propertY.  School property includes any property located within the boundaries of the school.  For the purposes of this subsection, "all persons" means all employees or agents of service providers, vendors, technicians, contractors and subcontractors.

B.  A peace officer may remove from the school property any person who fails to comply with the requirements of a policy adopted pursuant to subsection A of this section.

C.  If a school district or charter school has adopted a policy before the effective date of this section regarding visitors who enter the school property, the school district or charter school is not required to adopt a new policy as a result of this section.

D.  This section does not apply to an employee or agent of a utility, telecommunication or cable provider in an emergency when immediate entry to school property is needed and the employee or agent notifies the school as soon as practicable. END_STATUTE
