SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 54
Commending the Prince William County Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, February 15, 2024

 

WHEREAS, the Prince William County Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating on behalf of Black women and girls to promote leadership development and gender equity in the areas of health, education, and economic empowerment; and

WHEREAS, the Prince William County Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (PWCC NCBW) was established on November 17, 2012, shortly after its organizer, Dr. Alice H. Howard, presented a letter to the national organization requesting the formation of a new chapter in Prince William County; and

WHEREAS, as a testament to its success in the pursuit of its goals, the PWCC NCBW has grown from its initial roster of 71 members to a membership of more than 120 in 2022; and

WHEREAS, the PWCC NCBW's health programs include its community health vaccine expo, a 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer walk or run to help prevent diabetes, and the "Stop the Stigma" mental health awareness workshop; and

WHEREAS, the PWCC NCBW helps young people develop the skills and knowledge they need to achieve their dreams and become the leaders of tomorrow through scholarships for graduating high school seniors and a mentoring program for girls ages 13 through 18; and

WHEREAS, the PWCC NCBW promotes economic empowerment through programs and workshops that teach financial literacy, family wealth building, entrepreneurship, and economic self-sufficiency; and

WHEREAS, the PWCC NCBW takes an active role in advocating for change at the local, state, and federal level, supporting a number of causes that are important to the organization and its members; and

WHEREAS, with a commitment to the organization's core values of gender equality, inclusion, respect, racial and social justice, integrity and accountability, economic empowerment, and collaboration, the PWCC NCBW has helped to make Prince William County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Prince William County Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., hereby be commended for more than a decade of service and advocacy; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Prince William County Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's contributions to the Commonwealth.
