WHEREAS, in 2022, Andrea F. Warren made history when she was selected as the first Black chief executive officer of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra; and

WHEREAS, Andrea F. Warren is a veteran educator who worked at Virginia Beach City Public Schools for more than 20 years before joining the Governor's School for the Arts in Norfolk; and

WHEREAS, during her 13-year tenure at the Governor's School for the Arts, Andrea Warren oversaw the creation and expansion of numerous arts programs for middle school and high school students across the Commonwealth, including a visual and performing arts college fair and summer camps focused on arts and music; and

WHEREAS, upon her selection as chief executive officer of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Andrea Warren became the first Black woman ever to serve as the leading executive of a symphony orchestra in the United States or Canada; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, the largest performing arts organization in southeastern Virginia, was founded more than 100 years ago, and Andrea Warren has maintained the orchestra's long traditions of excellence in the performing arts; and

WHEREAS, under Andrea Warren's leadership the Virginia Symphony Orchestra has presented hundreds of concerts and events to educate, enlighten and entertain tens of thousands of local residents and visitors; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Andrea F. Warren hereby be commended for her service and leadership as chief executive officer of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Andrea Warren as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her achievements in service to students as an educator and commitment to promoting and advancing the performing arts in the region.
