11102166D Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: 1. That § 33.1-23.03:01 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows: § 33.1-23.03:01. Distribution of certain federal funds. Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) as defined under Title 23 U.S.C. 134 and Section 8 of the Federal Transit Act shall be authorized to issue contracts for studies and to develop and approve transportation plans and improvement programs to the full extent permitted by federal law. Such transportation plans and improvement programs shall include: 1. The development of long-range regional transportation plans for submission to the Commissioner for consideration for inclusion in the Six-Year Improvement Program, including the input on prioritization of projects by the MPOs. 2. The development of periodic amendments to the Six-Year Improvement Program. 3. Consultation and cooperation with localities. 4. An examination of the structure and cost of transit operations. 5. The endorsement of long-range plans assuring maximum utilization and integration of mass transportation facilities throughout the Commonwealth. 6. The study of long-range financial needs for improving public transportation systems. 7. The scheduling of at least one public hearing to carry out the provisions of this section. |
