16106194D WHEREAS, Mildred Jane Worsham has been a valued member of Chatham Presbyterian Church for more than 70 years and has been active in many church ministries, making a positive difference in the life of the church and the people who worship there; and WHEREAS, Mildred Jane Worsham has been honored by Chatham Presbyterian Church for her many years of service as organist, a position she first accepted in 1945; she provided uplifting music, hymns, and other religious melodies during worship services; and WHEREAS, music remains a central focus of Mildred Jane Worsham's contributions to Chatham Presbyterian Church; she is the longtime choir director at the church and still serves in that capacity, leading choir members and the congregation in song and enriching the worship experience for all; and WHEREAS, in the 1980s, as women assumed leadership roles in the Presbyterian church, Mildred Jane Worsham became one of Chatham Presbyterian Church's first female elders, offering a new outlook on the issues that came before the church leaders; and WHEREAS, Mildred Jane Worsham also was one of the first women at Chatham Presbyterian Church to serve on the church session, and she also was named clerk of session from 1995 to 2015; and WHEREAS, generations of young people at Chatham Presbyterian Church learned about their religion and its message from Mildred Jane Worsham; she was a Sunday School teacher for many years and only recently stepped down from that position; and WHEREAS, throughout her marriage, Mildred Jane Worsham has greatly supported her husband, Landon, in his many volunteer and church activities, especially during his years as chief of the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Mildred Jane Worsham hereby be commended for her devotion and many contributions to Chatham Presbyterian Church; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mildred Jane Worsham as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect and admiration for her tireless service to Chatham Presbyterian Church. |
