12104185D Patrons-- Brink, Englin, Hope and Lopez; Senators: Ebbin, Favola and Howell WHEREAS, Emily Boda of Arlington has been selected to participate in the 2011 - 2012 Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars program; and WHEREAS, the prestigious program, a partnership between NASA Langley Research Center and the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, consists of an intensive online course that students take from December until May; and WHEREAS, based on their online course performance, students may be chosen to participate in a weeklong Summer Academy at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, where they have the opportunity to work with NASA scientists to develop a plan for a manned mission to Mars; and WHEREAS, the program culminates with the students presenting their mission plans before NASA mentors, Langley Research Center staff, aerospace industry representatives, Virginia General Assembly members, and family members and teachers; and WHEREAS, a hardworking student, Emily Boda will complete 10 lesson modules that teach science, technology, and math skills with a space exploration theme while earning two college credits; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Emily Boda on her selection as a participant in the 2011 - 2012 Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars program; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Emily Boda as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and best wishes in her future endeavors. |
