WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in | ||
recognizing Dr. Gene Buinger, who is retiring from his position | ||
as superintendent of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School | ||
District and who is being honored at the Catalyst of Hope | ||
Luncheon on January 24, 2013; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dr. Buinger began his career in education in the | ||
suburbs of Kansas City, where he was a social studies teacher, a | ||
coach, and an assistant principal; he later served as | ||
superintendent of schools in Halstead, Kansas, and from 1989 to | ||
1996, he served as superintendent of schools in Odessa, Texas, | ||
during the time Friday Night Lights was published; and | ||
WHEREAS, After a stint as a superintendent in Macon, | ||
Georgia, he joined Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School | ||
District in June of 1999; during his tenure, the International | ||
Baccalaureate and other innovative programs were implemented and | ||
Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Arabic were added to the language | ||
options; and | ||
WHEREAS, Now in his 33rd year of service as a | ||
superintendent of schools, Dr. Buinger has long been recognized | ||
as an outstanding leader by his peers in the educational | ||
community; as superintendent of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford | ||
Independent School District, Dr. Buinger has set an impressive | ||
course in the pursuit of educational excellence by stressing open | ||
communication and the need for each school to foster a positive | ||
educational ambience; his distinguished leadership has played a | ||
major role in making the district the exceptional school system | ||
it is today; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, | ||
83rd Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Gene Buinger on his notable | ||
accomplishments as superintendent of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford | ||
Independent School District and extend congratulations to him on | ||
earning the Catalyst of Hope Award; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
