| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize LAMIK Beauty for its outstanding work with the City of | ||
| Houston Department of Health and Human Services in support of | ||
| National Women and Girls HIV-AIDS Awareness Day, which is being | ||
| observed March 10, 2011; and | ||
| WHEREAS, LAMIK Beauty, along with the Franklin Beauty | ||
| School and the City of Houston Department of Health and Human | ||
| Services, is hosting an event designed to increase awareness of | ||
| the dangers of HIV-AIDS and to encourage women and girls to get | ||
| tested for the disease; and | ||
| WHEREAS, As part of this event, LAMIK Beauty is launching a | ||
| new lip gloss, Status Red, to honor this special day; proceeds | ||
| from this new product will go the Health Department Foundation to | ||
| help fund awareness and prevention efforts; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Every 35 minutes, a woman tests positive for | ||
| HIV-AIDS, and approximately one in four Americans living with the | ||
| disease are women; it is the leading cause of death for African | ||
| American women aged 25 to 34; and | ||
| WHEREAS, LAMIK Beauty has invested valuable time and | ||
| effort in the fight against HIV-AIDS, and it is truly fitting | ||
| that this enterprise be recognized for its dedication and | ||
| commitment; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend LAMIK Beauty on its commitment to | ||
| raising awareness of the risks and dangers of HIV-AIDS and extend | ||
| best wishes for a successful National Women and Girls HIV-AIDS | ||
| Awareness Day; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| LAMIK Beauty as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
