WHEREAS, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of | ||
Medicine, scheduled to open in the fall of 2016, has been awarded a | ||
$2.88 million grant through the United Health Foundation "Helping | ||
Build Healthier Communities" initiative; and | ||
WHEREAS, This generous contribution will support the | ||
creation of the Colonia Integrated Care Program: VIDAS (Valley | ||
Inter-professional Development and Services), a project to improve | ||
health care access in unincorporated border communities; and | ||
WHEREAS, Through mobile clinics and telecommunication | ||
technologies, the program will promote wellness education, offer | ||
screenings, and provide dental and mental health services; it will | ||
also aim to formalize training for and increase the number of | ||
skilled promotoras, health workers who connect the health care | ||
system with colonia residents through shared language and culture; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The United Health Foundation endowment will provide | ||
the Colonia Integrated Care Program an opportunity to transform | ||
health care in underserved areas, and this vital objective will | ||
benefit countless Texans; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas Rio Grande | ||
Valley School of Medicine on its receipt of a grant from the United | ||
Health Foundation and commend all those working to develop the | ||
Colonia Integrated Care Program; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the institution as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. |
