R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of |
|
Medicine, scheduled to open in the fall of 2016, has been awarded a |
|
$2.88 million grant through the United Health Foundation "Helping |
|
Build Healthier Communities" initiative; and |
|
WHEREAS, This generous contribution will support the |
|
creation of the Colonia Integrated Care Program: VIDAS (Valley |
|
Inter-professional Development and Services), a project to improve |
|
health care access in unincorporated border communities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through mobile clinics and telecommunication |
|
technologies, the program will promote wellness education, offer |
|
screenings, and provide dental and mental health services; it will |
|
also aim to formalize training for and increase the number of |
|
skilled promotoras, health workers who connect the health care |
|
system with colonia residents through shared language and culture; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The United Health Foundation endowment will provide |
|
the Colonia Integrated Care Program an opportunity to transform |
|
health care in underserved areas, and this vital objective will |
|
benefit countless Texans; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas Rio Grande |
|
Valley School of Medicine on its receipt of a grant from the United |
|
Health Foundation and commend all those working to develop the |
|
Colonia Integrated Care Program; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the institution as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
