WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at | ||
the loss of U.S. Army Sergeant William Robert Moody of Burleson, | ||
who died in Afghanistan on June 18, 2013, at the age of 30; and | ||
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 68th Combat Sustainment Support | ||
Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division out of | ||
Fort Carson, Colorado, Sergeant Moody was one of four soldiers | ||
killed during a rocket attack on Bagram Air Force Base; and | ||
WHEREAS, Sergeant Moody's many decorations include the | ||
Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, | ||
the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Combat | ||
Action Ribbon, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense | ||
Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, | ||
the Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, and the Global War on | ||
Terrorism Service Medal; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born to Jeanette Stanley and William Moody in | ||
Belleville, Illinois, on January 25, 1983, William Moody graduated | ||
from Burleson High School in 2002; answering his nation's call to | ||
duty, he joined the U.S. Marines in 2003, served two tours of duty | ||
in Iraq, and received an honorable discharge in 2007; the following | ||
year, Sergeant Moody joined the U.S. Army, and at the time of his | ||
death, he was serving his third tour in Afghanistan; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and | ||
support of his wife, Lacy, whom he married in 2008, and he was a | ||
devoted father to his three children, Alaysia, Korben, and Graydon; | ||
among his friends, he was known for his enthusiasm and warm smile, | ||
and they looked to him for encouragement when they were down; and | ||
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and | ||
women whose love for country inspires them to take up military | ||
service, yet the tragic death of this brave soldier is a sobering | ||
reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant William Moody embodied the | ||
highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and | ||
loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of | ||
Sergeant William Robert Moody and extend sincere condolences to the | ||
members of his family: to his wife, Lacy Brooke Moody; to his | ||
daughter, Alaysia Bre'an; to his sons, Korben Parker and Graydon | ||
William; to his mother, Jeanette Stanley; to his father and | ||
stepmother, William and Wendy Moody; to his sisters, Heather | ||
Avelar, Ivory Moody, and Bailey Moody; to his brother, Rion Moody; | ||
and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William | ||
R. Moody. | ||
