R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at |
|
the loss of U.S. Army Sergeant William Robert Moody of Burleson, |
|
who died in Afghanistan on June 18, 2013, at the age of 30; and |
|
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 68th Combat Sustainment Support |
|
Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division out of |
|
Fort Carson, Colorado, Sergeant Moody was one of four soldiers |
|
killed during a rocket attack on Bagram Air Force Base; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sergeant Moody's many decorations include the |
|
Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, |
|
the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Combat |
|
Action Ribbon, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense |
|
Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, |
|
the Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, and the Global War on |
|
Terrorism Service Medal; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born to Jeanette Stanley and William Moody in |
|
Belleville, Illinois, on January 25, 1983, William Moody graduated |
|
from Burleson High School in 2002; answering his nation's call to |
|
duty, he joined the U.S. Marines in 2003, served two tours of duty |
|
in Iraq, and received an honorable discharge in 2007; the following |
|
year, Sergeant Moody joined the U.S. Army, and at the time of his |
|
death, he was serving his third tour in Afghanistan; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and |
|
support of his wife, Lacy, whom he married in 2008, and he was a |
|
devoted father to his three children, Alaysia, Korben, and Graydon; |
|
among his friends, he was known for his enthusiasm and warm smile, |
|
and they looked to him for encouragement when they were down; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|
women whose love for country inspires them to take up military |
|
service, yet the tragic death of this brave soldier is a sobering |
|
reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant William Moody embodied the |
|
highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and |
|
loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
Sergeant William Robert Moody and extend sincere condolences to the |
|
members of his family: to his wife, Lacy Brooke Moody; to his |
|
daughter, Alaysia Bre'an; to his sons, Korben Parker and Graydon |
|
William; to his mother, Jeanette Stanley; to his father and |
|
stepmother, William and Wendy Moody; to his sisters, Heather |
|
Avelar, Ivory Moody, and Bailey Moody; to his brother, Rion Moody; |
|
and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William |
|
R. Moody. |
