R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Therese Shelton has received the 2015 Ron Barnes
  Distinguished Service to Students Award from the Texas Section of
  the Mathematical Association of America; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1915, the MAA is the largest
  professional society dedicated to advancing the mathematical
  sciences at the undergraduate level; Dr. Shelton has been honored
  by her peers for her exceptional efforts to prepare students for
  careers in mathematics; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Shelton began her teaching career as an
  assistant professor at Southwestern University in 1987, and she was
  made an associate professor in 1994; during her tenure, she has
  guided many students as they have prepared their work to present at
  mathematics conferences, encouraging them to go beyond the usual
  requirements of undergraduate coursework; additionally, she has
  served as chair of the mathematics and computer science department
  and the natural sciences division, and she has made presentations
  at a number of professional gatherings; and
         WHEREAS, After developing an interest in mathematics in high
  school, Dr. Shelton earned a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M
  University and went on to attain a master's degree and a doctorate
  from Clemson University; she enjoys spending leisure time with her
  family and working in her garden, and she is an active member of the
  Georgetown community; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout her years of dedicated service,
  Dr. Therese Shelton has exemplified the qualities that are the
  hallmarks of a great professor, and she has earned the respect and
  admiration of colleagues and students alike; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Therese Shelton on receiving
  the Ron Barnes Distinguished Service to Students Award and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Shelton as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
