R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The CowParade public art event is taking place in
  Austin from July to October 2011, and this fun and imaginative
  exhibit is providing valuable support for the Dell Children's
  Medical Center of Central Texas; and
         WHEREAS, CowParade features the work of local artists and
  raises funds for partner charities in each city that hosts its
  varied and eclectic displays of bovine statuary; the first
  CowParade event was held in Chicago in 1999, and in the years since,
  exhibits have appeared in 75 cities in 30 countries and have raised
  more than $30 million; and
         WHEREAS, CowParade Austin will feature about 100 cow
  sculptures created by artists from the community; after the
  exhibition ends in mid-October, the works of art will be auctioned
  at a gala scheduled for October 30, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, The Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas
  has been chosen as the Austin event's nonprofit partner and
  beneficiary; the hospital provides pediatric care for young Texans
  in 46 counties and offers treatment for cancers and blood disorders
  through its Children's Blood and Cancer Center; partnering with the
  hospital, CowParade will contribute proceeds to the Austin
  Community Foundation's Superhero Kids Fund, which helps meet the
  specific needs of the Children's Blood and Cancer Center, its
  patients, and their families; and
         WHEREAS, As the home of The University of Texas Longhorns and
  the capital of a state inextricably linked with cattle and
  ranching, Austin is a fitting location for this exciting event, and
  CowParade is indeed deserving of recognition for its efforts to
  focus attention on the city's vibrant arts community while
  benefiting a vital medical resource; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2011
  CowParade in Austin benefiting the Dell Children's Medical Center
  of Central Texas and extend to all those taking part in the
  exhibition and auction sincere best wishes for a memorable and
  successful event.
