R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Brady are mourning the loss of
  police chief Charles Edward Derrick, who passed away on December
  21, 2014, at the age of 57; and
         WHEREAS, Charlie Derrick was born in Dallas to Charles and
  Mary Derrick on August 25, 1957; he graduated from the Texas
  Department of Public Safety Academy in 1980 and was assigned to the
  driver's license division in Farmers Branch for one year; this fine
  officer then realized a lifelong dream in 1981, when he became a
  highway patrol officer; he served in that capacity in Corsicana for
  eight years and later worked as a narcotics officer and trainer in
  Del Rio, Austin, and San Angelo; and
         WHEREAS, Chief Derrick was a member of the DPS Post-Seizure
  Analysis Team from 1997 to 2001, and during that time he also
  attended the FBI Academy; after returning to narcotics training for
  a time, he spent six years as gun range master at the DPS firearms
  range in Florence, where he worked with recruits until his
  retirement in 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Following his exemplary tenure with DPS, Chief
  Derrick moved to Brady and assumed the post of chief of police;
  during his more than five years in that office, he set an inspiring
  example of professionalism and integrity while admirably serving
  the citizens of Brady and McCulloch County; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Chief Derrick enjoyed the love
  and support of his wife of more than three decades, Chris Derrick,
  and he took great pride in their three sons, Jason, Stephen, and
  Samuel, as well as their five grandchildren; a man of deep faith, he
  was an active congregant of Hill Country Bible Church in Austin,
  where he served as an elder; and
         WHEREAS, Charles Derrick dedicated his life to protecting the
  safety of others, and in so doing, he embodied the highest ideals of
  the law enforcement profession; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Chief Charles Edward
  Derrick and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
  his wife of 31 years, Chris Derrick; to his sons, Stephen Derrick
  and Jason Derrick and his wife, Kosal; to his grandchildren, Emma,
  Payton, Grace, Ethan, and Caleb; to his sister, Melanie Brown, and
  her husband, Gary; and to his many other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles
  Edward Derrick.
