WHEREAS, Charlie Marshall has devoted a lifetime of service | ||
to the community of Aransas Pass, and in so doing he has benefited | ||
countless Texans; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Skidmore, Mr. Marshall arrived in | ||
Aransas Pass in 1949 and soon after established his business, | ||
Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., of which he | ||
remains the sole proprietor; in addition to operating the firm's | ||
two facilities in Aransas Pass and Rockport, he is president of its | ||
board of directors, and his ventures further include development of | ||
land subdivisions in nine Texas counties; and | ||
WHEREAS, His leadership in his profession is widely | ||
recognized and respected; he is a past president of what is now the | ||
Texas Funeral Service Commission and is one of its longest serving | ||
members; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall additionally has invested considerable | ||
time and energy in the local education system and in the welfare of | ||
schoolchildren; first elected a trustee for the Aransas Pass | ||
Independent School District in 1959, he retired in 2012 as the | ||
longest serving member of a public school board in the state of | ||
Texas; and | ||
WHEREAS, This exemplary civic leader founded the Aransas Pass | ||
Associated Charities in 1952 and led the organization as president | ||
for over three decades; moreover, he played a key role in the | ||
construction of the Aransas Pass Public Library and the Aransas | ||
Pass Memorial Tower, having held seats on the boards of both | ||
initiatives, and he has been a board member for the Prairie View | ||
Cemetery Association since 1960; a past president of the Aransas | ||
Pass Chamber of Commerce, he is also a former board member for the | ||
San Patricio County Red Cross and a life member of the Ingleside | ||
Veterans of Foreign Wars; his involvement in Aransas Pass Masonic | ||
Lodge No. 1018 dates back nearly 65 years; and | ||
WHEREAS, Acclaimed for his outstanding work in the community, | ||
Mr. Marshall has been recognized by the Texas Funeral Directors | ||
Association, the Texas Ambulance Association, and the Aransas Pass | ||
High School Band, which he has generously supported; in 1997, as a | ||
tribute to his numerous contributions to the public education | ||
system, a local elementary school was named in his honor; among | ||
myriad other accolades, he is a Citizen of the Year honoree and a | ||
recipient of the coveted Murl Smith Award, and he was presented with | ||
an award from Rockport American G.I. Forum No. 324 in appreciation | ||
of his half-century of work in behalf of military veterans; and | ||
WHEREAS, Tireless in his drive to make his community an even | ||
better place in which to live, Charlie Marshall has set an inspiring | ||
example of civic engagement, and the people of Aransas Pass are | ||
indeed fortunate to count him among their most distinguished fellow | ||
residents; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Charlie Marshall for | ||
his many public-spirited achievements and extend to him sincere | ||
best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Marshall as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
