        Introduced  by  Sen. REICHLIN-MELNICK -- read twice and ordered printed,
          and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health

        AN ACT  to  amend  the  public  health  law,  in  relation  to  labeling
          prescription bottles of opioids

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 3333 of the public health  law  is
     2  amended by adding a new paragraph (d) to read as follows:
     3    (d)  In  addition to the other requirements of this subdivision, where
     4  the controlled substance being dispensed is an opioid,  there  shall  be
     5  affixed to the container a label upon which is indelibly typed, printed,
     6  or  otherwise  legibly written "Warning.   This drug is highly addictive
     7  and may cause depression and overdose.  Please consult  your  pharmacist
     8  or physician before using."
     9    §  2.  This  act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
    10  have become a law.    Effective  immediately,  the  addition,  amendment
    11  and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation
    12  of  this  act  on  its  effective  date  are  authorized  to be made and
    13  completed on or before such effective date.
