STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 3098 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN SENATE January 27, 2023 ___________ Introduced by Sen. SANDERS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Housing, Construction and Community Development AN ACT to amend the public housing law, in relation to requiring the New York city housing authority to provide adequate and reliable internet service for all housing authority residents The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The public housing law is amended by adding a new section 2 402-g to read as follows: 3 § 402-g. NYCHA internet service. The New York city housing authority 4 (NYCHA) shall be required to provide adequate and reliable internet 5 service at all NYCHA residential properties which can be accessed at any 6 time by NYCHA residents. 7 § 2. Subdivision 1 of section 402-e of the public housing law, as 8 amended by chapter 47 of the laws of 2020, is amended to read as 9 follows: 10 1. In order to ensure compliance and enforcement of the New York city 11 housing authority's duty to provide heat, water, electricity, internet 12 service and elevator service, the New York city housing authority shall 13 publish information regarding reported disruptions in such services, the 14 length of such disruptions and the steps taken to restore services. 15 Starting on May first, two thousand twenty, the New York city housing 16 authority shall publish such information on its website. For six months 17 after the original publication date, the New York city housing authority 18 shall retain such information on its website. 19 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
