Senate Resolution No. 3348 BY: Senator BRESLIN HONORING Robert J. Beston upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2020 Third Age Achievement Award for Government by Lifepath WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Robert J. Beston upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2020 Third Age Achievement Award for Government by Lifepath, which was celebrated at its 24th Annual Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 25, 2020; and WHEREAS, Each year, this auspicious event recognizes the contributions area residents and professionals have made in their communities during the Third Age, after turning 60 years-old, of their lives; Robert J. Beston is truly deserving of this prestigious award; and WHEREAS, Lifepath is dedicated to keeping older neighbors and friends healthy and safe by providing effective programs and support to help them stay connected to their communities; and WHEREAS, Born and raised in Watervliet, Robert J. Beston quickly became well-known in his community; he served for 23 years with the Watervliet Police Department, and simultaneously owned a body shop that he operated part-time for almost 18 years; and WHEREAS, He then, together with his wife, Sandra, managed Densmore's, a grocery and delicatessen which they ran for many years; it was during that time Robert developed strong cooking skills which led to the couple establishing a catering service; in addition, he worked full-time as a plumber for Siena College; and WHEREAS, Robert J. Beston's popularity in Watervliet grew over the years, which led to him being appointed to a vacant seat in the Albany County Legislature in 2001, which he has been reelected to ever since; and WHEREAS, Although Robert J. Beston has worn many uniforms throughout his career, he may be best known for the apron carefully tied around his waist as he cooks up his "special sauce"; and WHEREAS, Robert J. Beston's generosity and culinary skills, as well as his "special sauce", have brought thousands of people to attend the many fundraising dinners he has organized over the years to benefit local non-profits; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Robert J. Beston upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2020 Third Age Achievement Award for Government by Lifepath; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Robert J. Beston.
