Senate Resolution No. 2555 BY: Senator MARTINS COMMEMORATING the 10th Anniversary of the Town of Mineola's Portugal Day Parade WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those organizations which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of New York State; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Town of Mineola's Portugal Day Parade; and WHEREAS, The 10th Annual Portugal Day Parade, in conjunction with the New York Portuguese American Leadership Conference, is hosted on Portugal's National Day and is celebrated on the 9th of June; and WHEREAS, Portuguese citizens and emigrants throughout the world celebrate Portugal Day and the date commemorates the death of national literary icon, Luis de Camoes, who died on June 10, 1580; and WHEREAS, The New York Portuguese American Leadership Council, is a nonprofit organization that serves to empower the Portuguese community through advocacy, education, and networking; they aim to preserve and promote Portuguese culture and heritage, while also promoting economic and social development within the community; and WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and commend cultural events which symbolize the historical, social, and cultural development of this great State and embody the spirit of the principles upon which this Nation was founded; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Town of Mineola's Portugal Day Parade; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the Town of Mineola.
