        HONORING  Joan  Cohen  upon  the  occasion  of her
        designation as recipient  of  the  Schechter  "Tony"
        Award  by  the  Schechter  School  of Long Island on
        March 28, 2019

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor and  pay
tribute  to those individuals whose commitment and creative talents have
contributed to the entertainment and cultural enrichment of the citizens
of the State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Joan  Cohen  upon  the  occasion  of her designation as recipient of the
Schechter "Tony" Award by the Schechter School  of  Long  Island  to  be
celebrated at its Annual Dinner Gala on Thursday, March 28, 2019; and

  WHEREAS,  The Schechter School of Long Island (SSLI) is a Jewish day
school whose dual curriculum of excellence  educates  and  empowers  its
students  to be critical thinkers, ethical leaders, and globally engaged
citizens, striving to  achieve  their  full  potential  and  ensuring  a
vibrant Jewish future; and

  WHEREAS, Each and every student's unique potential and strengths are
nurtured  and  celebrated, guiding them towards achieving their personal
goals; students at the SSLI are taught six core  values,  Torah,  Ahavat
Yisrael, Kehila, Mitzvot, Tefillah and Gemilut Chasadim which will guide
them through every stage of life; and

  WHEREAS,  Under  the  luminous  leadership  of  Joan  Cohen and many
volunteers, the drama program at the SSLI diligently works to  cultivate
the  collaborative and creative potential in its students by giving them
the opportunity to try new pursuits, hone their skills, take  risks  and
explore a variety of roles behind or in front of the curtain; and

  WHEREAS,  Since  2002,  Joan  Cohen has truly given her students the
opportunity  to  discover  that  the  performing  arts  are  truly   the
expression of the soul; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are  brought  to  our
attention,  they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
honor  Joan  Cohen  upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Schechter "Tony" Award by the Schechter School  of  Long  Island  on
March 28, 2019; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joan Cohen.
