        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to enacting the
          "traffic ticket relief act"
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section  1.  Short  title. This act shall be known and may be cited as
     2  the "traffic ticket relief act".
     3    § 2. Section 241 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a
     4  new subdivision 4 to read as follows:
     5    4. For any fine imposed on a person by a hearing examiner pursuant  to
     6  this section, the hearing examiner may reduce the amount of such fine as
     7  a  result  of such person's lack of ability to pay. The hearing examiner
     8  may request any documentation he or she believes necessary to make  such
     9  a  determination.  The  hearing  examiner  may also authorize the person
    10  fined to pay such fine in installments to be determined by  the  hearing
    11  examiner.
    12    § 3. Section 227 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a
    13  new subdivision 7 to read as follows:
    14    7.  For  any fine imposed on a person by a hearing officer pursuant to
    15  this section, the hearing officer may reduce the amount of such fine  as
    16  a  result  of  such person's lack of ability to pay. The hearing officer

    21    § 4. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth  day  after  it  shall
    22  have become a law.
