STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 6416 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY April 6, 2023 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. E. BROWN -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Energy AN ACT in relation to directing the commissioner of health and the pres- ident of the New York state energy research and development authority to conduct a study on the impacts of electric vehicles on personal medical devices The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The commissioner of health and the president of the New 2 York state energy research and development authority (NYSERDA) are here- 3 by directed to study and make recommendations on the impacts of electric 4 vehicles on personal medical devices. 5 § 2. Such study shall include, but not be limited to: 6 (a) analysis of the effect of the proximity to electrical power sourc- 7 es in vehicles on medical devices, including but not limited to, cardiac 8 implantable electronic devices; and 9 (b) analysis of electric vehicles and electromagnetic interference 10 (EMI) with medical devices, including, but not limited to, pacemakers 11 and defibrillators; 12 § 3. Within one year after the effective date of this act, the commis- 13 sioner of health and the president of NYSERDA shall submit a report of 14 the findings and recommendations pursuant to this act to the governor, 15 the temporary president of the senate, the minority leader of the 16 senate, the speaker of the assembly, the minority leader of the assem- 17 bly, and the chairs and ranking members of the senate and assembly 18 committees on health and shall post such report on the department of 19 health's website and NYSERDA's website. 20 § 4.
