AN ACT relative to changes to town charters.

ANALYSIS

This bill requires the secretary of state, the attorney general, and the commissioner of the department of revenue administration to notify any municipality of receipt of a report relative to its new, amended, or revised charter.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eleven

AN ACT relative to changes to town charters.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Changes to Town Charters; Approval and Review. Amend RSA 49-B:5-a, I(c) to read as follows:

(c) Within 14 days of receipt of such report the secretary of state, the attorney general, and the commissioner of the department of revenue administration shall notify the chairman of the charter commission of its receipt. Within 30 days of the receipt of said report [by] the secretary of state, attorney general, and the commissioner of the department of revenue administration[, they] shall review the proposed charter, charter revision, or charter amendment to insure that it is consistent with the general laws of this state.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
