Senate Resolution 26

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RICHLAND HIGH SCHOOL "RANGERS" BOYS SOCCER TEAM AND COACH JOHN ADAMS FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, THEIR SECOND STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN FOUR SEASONS.

     WHEREAS, on February 5, 2022, the Richland High School "Rangers" Boys Soccer Team defeated Bay High 2-0, their second Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A State Championship, sending 10 seniors out with their second State Championship in four seasons; and

     WHEREAS, Jose Guiterres scored off a corner kick four minutes into the game and Charles Williams scored on an assist from Jacob Young with 11 minutes to play for Richland's two goals.  Richland finished with a 16-8 record; and

     WHEREAS, "This season was bittersweet," said Richland Coach John Adams, who just finished his fifth season.  "We are losing 10 seniors that I've got to coach since they were in the eighth grade and for us to go out with a win like that is everything.  Most of them were a part of the first championship (in 2019)"; and

     WHEREAS, the 10 seniors are Jose Guiterres, Jacob Young, Ajari Fairley, Cameron Allison, Logan Bynum, Benji Hernandez, Chino Hernandez, Alexander Mariano, Carson Rimes and Nathan Smith.  Guiterres was named the game's MVP; and

     WHEREAS, the Richland High School "Rangers" Boys Soccer Championship Team Roster:  Charles Williams, Harrison Rudd, Logan Bynum, Braden Clark, Garrett Myers, Garrett Burney, Jose Guiterres, Gavin Myers, Tyler Hanson, Jeremy Thomas, Kyle Webb, Kevin Ragoyta, Orlando Zarazua, Carson Rimes, William Boiling, Nolan Smith, Jameson Miller, Alexander Mariano, Mason Moha, Chino Hernandez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ajari Fairley, Cooper Hammons, Cameron Allison, Eric Zarazua, Nathan Smith, Gerardo Paredes, William Guevara, Abram Yates, Hagan Roberts, Michael Mendoza, Samuel Lee, Jose Arellano, Benji Hernandez, Jacob Young, Noah Rayburn, Corey Myers and Blake Windham; and Head Coach John Adams; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought pride to their school, their community, and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Richland High School "Rangers" Boys Soccer Team and Coach John Adams for winning the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship, their second State Championship in four seasons, and extend to the team, coaches, parents, and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach John Adams for the team, forwarded to Richland Head Principal Dr. Marcus Stewart and the Rankin County School Board, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
