WHEREAS, the Distinguished Young Woman of Starkville, Lori Feng, was named the "Distinguished Young Woman of Mississippi for 2019" during the State Competition on July 15, 2018, in Meridian, Mississippi.  Lori was the second consecutive Distinguished Young Woman of Starkville to win the Mississippi State Competition.  Abigail Musser was the 2018 Distinguished Young Woman of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Lori is the daughter of Li Wang and Gary Feng, and the family lives in Starkville.  She is a Senior at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in Columbus.  Lori was awarded $9,000.00 in scholarship money for being named the Distinguished Young Woman of Mississippi, along with winning the Overall Talent Award and Overall Scholastic Award; and

WHEREAS, during the competition, 25% of the score came from a ten-minute interview, 25% is from academics, 15% is from fitness, 20% was from talent, and 15% was from self-expression, which is an on-stage question; and

WHEREAS, Lori performed "The Liszt Etude No. 1" on piano for her talent during the competition.  Lori said her favorite parts of the competition were the talent portion and the interview.  The most memorable part of the experience for Lori was getting to meet the other girls in the program, and she loves that the Distinguished Young Women program does not have a competitive atmosphere.  Distinguished Young Women of Starkville Program Director Susan Keith said Feng exhibited the same positive attitude as her competitors.  Feng will go on to participate in the National Program at the end of June 2019 in Mobile, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, Lori is a very intelligent and talented young woman who is an outstanding representative for Starkville and Mississippi.  Lori is well-respected and made quite an impression at the state program for her cheerful personality and outstanding talent.  She is such a positive role model for the young people in our state, and it is with great pride that we join the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in recognizing this special achievement by a young Mississippi citizen who has brought honor to her university, her community and to the State of Mississippi:
