Senate Bill 2356

AN ACT TO CREATE THE MISSISSIPPI COMPLETE STREETS LEGISLATION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall develop a complete streets program to integrate all forms of intermodal transportation.  The program shall provide for the needs of drivers, public transportation vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities in all planning, programming, design construction, reconstruction, retrofitting, operations and maintenance activities, and services.  The plan shall view all transportation improvements as opportunities to improve safety, access, and mobility for all travelers in the state.  The plan must recognize bicycle, pedestrian, and transit modes as integral elements of the transportation system.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.
