(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. ANNIE B. CHILES UPON BEING RECOGNIZED AS A HEROINE OF THE CITY OF VICKSBURG.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Annie B. Chiles has dedicated her life to service and helping others, and because her tireless service has not been overlooked, she will be publicly recognized and applauded as a heroine of the City of Vicksburg on March 29, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Chiles was born in the City of Vicksburg and raised a Christian, and growing up in Douglas Park, it was evident at an early age of her concern and genuine care for others, and it was also at an early age that she realized that we are our brother's keeper; and

WHEREAS, she also knew that we are held accountable for the treatment of our brothers and sisters (blood and spirit), and that true Christian love is the highest commandment and fulfills all the commandments of God (Matthew 22:36-40); and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Chiles has a deep abiding love and dedication to serve the Lord no matter what storm may come her way, remembering Paul's words, "I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound.  Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need."; and

WHEREAS, she has encountered tragedies and disappointments in her life, but said, "Nothing will separate me from the love of God," and she is truly a living example of how a godly woman faces adversity and pain, living her life according to Isaiah 6:8, "Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:  Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?"  Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Chiles has been an educator and a secretary in the Vicksburg Warren County School System since the late 1970s, and she served in the Vicksburg Warren County School System for more than 40 years and touched faculty and students' lives in many positive ways; and

WHEREAS, she has spread the love of God through song, words and acts of love, she has been instrumental in planning and organizing Vacation Bible School, she would also go throughout the Community of Vicksburg to pick up children and bring them to class, and the children affectionately called her van, the "BB Bus"; and

WHEREAS, when she could no longer speak, she used an iPad and a pencil to write down what needed to be done, and she also served as teacher of Thursday Bible Study after the death of her sister who started it, Mother Rosie Blackmore, and whenever there was a need she tried to fill it, and she supported the Church of God (every Church that glorified the True God); and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend such a remarkable, selfless woman as Mrs. Annie B. Chiles, whose service to her community and the State of Mississippi has not gone unnoticed:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Annie B. Chiles upon her recognition as a heroine of the City of Vicksburg at a gathering of family, friends and colleagues on March 29, 2014, to celebrate and honor her for all her accomplishments, and express sincere wishes for her continued peace, joy, and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Annie B. Chiles and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
