House Resolution 33

A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND ENDURING LEGACY OF MRS. DARLESTER FOSTER, AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

WHEREAS, when words both spoken and written fail, there is the lasting memory and indelible legacy of a mother, a wife, a teacher, and philanthropist, though words may never adequately describe Mrs. Foster's contributions, her memory lives forever with those who knew and loved her; and

WHEREAS, born September 7, 1952, in Ruleville, Mississippi, to Ruth and Willie Foster, Sr., Mrs. Foster lived her life with a passion for many activities, she was baptized at the age of eight and she was an active member of her church, True Light M.B. Church, where she sang in the choir, served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school secretary, church secretary and usher; and     WHEREAS, after being blessed with her first child, Mrs. Foster began working at Baxter Manufacturing Plant in Cleveland, Mississippi, where she made many lifelong friends, but undertaking every effort to set the highest example for her children, she returned to the classroom and earned an associate of arts degree from Coahoma County Community College; and

WHEREAS, driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge Mrs. Foster subsequently enrolled at Mississippi Valley State University where she earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration, and later Delta State University where she earned her masters of education degree with honors, all of which were achieved while concurrently serving the State of Mississippi as a Department of Corrections Officer, where she worked until retiring in May 2014, as the Correctional Associate Warden; and

WHEREAS, receipt of her masters of education did not end her tenure in the classroom, as she utilized her many blessings and passed on her knowledge and passion for learning as a teacher, serving 12 years as an adjunct professor at both Coahoma Community College and Mississippi Valley State University, while demonstrating the unparalleled leadership incumbent upon an educator and a mother of three; and

WHEREAS, having been the source of educational enlightenment for many young people, both in her church and in the education arena, Mrs. Foster's heart also longed to serve the children of St. Jude's Research Hospital, where she regularly contributed as a benefactor in hopes that no child should ever suffer the inequity of terminal illness; and

WHEREAS, though Mrs. Foster has now left our mortal world, to join those who preceded her in death, her mother Ruth B. Foster, her father Willie Foster, and brother Henry Lee Foster, it is for those blessed with her love, her passion, and her many gifts to further her enduring legacy, including survivors:  three children, Delandus, Daryl, and Dawana; two sisters, Minister Gwyn Scott and Pamela Foster; two brothers, Gentle Rainey and Willie Foster; two uncles and two aunts; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the True Light Church family; and

WHEREAS, through her life of love, family, faith, and friends Mrs. Foster's memory greatly exceeds the poor power of words which now attempt to define the fullness of her life and the contribution to our world; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay tribute and commend the life of such a caring, selfless, and inspiring Mississippian as Mrs. Darlester Foster whose light in life shown bright for all the world to see, a light of love, a light of caring, and a light of faith:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of a committed mother, a loving wife, a passionate teacher and selfless philanthropist in Mrs. Darlester Foster, extend deepest sympathy to her family, to her friends and to her church, and convey grateful appreciation for her many gifts, which she selflessly shared with those around her.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Darlester Foster and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
