A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE, SERVICE AND LEGACY OF MRS. ELLA SELLERS STREET AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, Wayne County lost one its oldest and most cherished gems in the passing of 102-year-old, Mrs. Ella Sellers Street, who was born on October 27, 1907, to Green Berry and Rose Taylor Sellers, when she departed this earthly life to enter into eternal life with her Heavenly Father, rendering great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, every life is given a purpose and special abilities to fulfill that purpose, and Mrs. Street served that purpose to complete fulfillment, having lived to see 19 United States Presidents take office as well as the development of this nation into an industrial and technological society, through the invention of electric lights, automobiles, airplanes and air-conditioning; and
WHEREAS, a part of Wayne County's living history, Mrs. Street's life was a vital link to the connection with years gone by and how things changed and evolved; and
WHEREAS, becoming a farmer's wife, after it being predestined by God for her to meet and be charmed by John Street at the intersection of life's love and happiness, the couple was wed on October 8, 1930, and spent 65 years together as bone of one another's bone and flesh of one another's flesh as husband and wife, and knew the value of hard work; and
WHEREAS, a mainstay and pillar of strength in her community for many years, Mrs. Street possessed great work and moral ethic and knew the value and benefits associated with hard work and diligence; and
WHEREAS, endowed with a servant's attitude, as a charter member of the Lowery Assembly of God Church, Mrs. Street and her husband were known for their unbridled generosity, as they were the Good Samaritans of their community, willing to help anyone in need, relying on her strong faith in God to sustain her family as well as the countless families she aided; and
WHEREAS, as Mrs. Street has now traversed the river of life to now stand on the golden shores of heaven's landing in a family reunion of the ages with her parents, husband and son, Roland Street, who preceded her in life's transition to immortality, the rich legacy of love and Christian devotion will be forever and indelibly etched into the hearts and memories of her loving survivors, including: daughter, Lettie Sue Steinocher (Leon); daughter-in-law, Jeanette Street; two granddaughters, Donna Patricia Holland and Cindy Miller; three grandsons, Steve, John B. and Phillip Street; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and special friends; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such a remarkable, promising individual as Mrs. Street, whose life's journey had a resonating effect upon the lives of those she encountered:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life, service and legacy of Mrs. Ella Sellers Street and express deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Street and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
