A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE SERVICE OF AND WELCOMING MR. DANIEL J. SEEHAFER, NATIONAL COMMANDER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND TO THE CITY OF GAUTIER AMERICAN LEGION POST NO. 1992.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Daniel J. Seehafer, who was elected National Commander of the American Legion on August 31, 2023, during the American Legion's 104th National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, will be visiting the City of Gautier, Mississippi's American Legion Post 1992 on February 22, 2024; and

     WHEREAS, a native of Merrill, Wisconsin, Commander Seehafer is a member of the Post 157 in Horicon, Wisconsin, and has served in a number of offices at every level of the American Legion, including national chaplain and Commander of the Department of Wisconsin; and

     WHEREAS, one who earned his American Legion eligibility by answering the call of duty to patriotic arms, Commander Seehafer joined the fraternal order of the United States Navy and thereafter with the Navy Reserve, serving God and this country honorably as a military chaplain; and

     WHEREAS, an avid runner, Commander Seehafer, who is an ordained minister, lettered in cross-country during his formative high school years and subsequently earned his bachelor's degree in pastoral ministry from Concordia University and a master of divinity at Concordia Theological Seminary, and currently serves as administrative pastor of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, where he began his initial service as assistant pastor in 1997; and

     WHEREAS, touting "It's personal," when referencing his allegiance to and work for the American Legion, Commander Seehafer, who has been the recipient of numerous American Legion honors, is continuing the theme of "Be the One," with a zealous commitment to prevent veteran suicide; and

     WHEREAS, through each of his endeavors, both professionally and civically, Commander Seehafer has experienced the unwavering support and inspiration from his wife, Stacey, who is a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 157, and their two children, Jacob and Emma, who are also members of Post 157; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the contributions of such selfless and deserving individuals as Commander Seehafer, in acknowledgment for his zealous commitment to this nation and the countless service of men and women who have stood and continue to stand on the frontline of defense of the protections of our liberties:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do commend the service of and welcome Mr. Daniel J. Seehafer, National Commander of the American Legion, to the State of Mississippi and to the City of Gautier American Legion Post No. 1992.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to National Commander Mr. Daniel J. Seehafer, the national office of the American Legion and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
