House Concurrent Resolution 97

(As Adopted by House and Senate)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CHOCTAW CENTRAL LADY WARRIORS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Choctaw Central Lady Warriors Girls Basketball Team were representing their school and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians when they defeated Amanda Elzy in a blowout 75-42 win to claim the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Warriors finished the championship season with a truly impressive 31-3 record and this championship is the sixth state girls basketball championship in school history; and

WHEREAS, after losing to Booneville in the state finals last year, the Lady Warriors never forgot that feeling and vowed to dominate the competition this season, and dominate they did, as they had to play their bench in the second half of most games to keep from scoring 100 points or more; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Warriors will take a couple of weeks off and celebrate the momentous occasion, but then the coaches and players will get right back to work preparing for another championship run next year; and

WHEREAS, although there were several standout individual performances over the course of the season, the championship win was a culmination of hard work and team effort, with every player knowing their role and executing it perfectly; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Warriors have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Bill Smith, who has broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Lady Warriors, whose excellence on and off the court brings honor to their school, their families and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Choctaw Central Lady Warriors Girls Basketball Team upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Bill Smith on behalf of the team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
