AN ACT

To amend chapter 167, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to school-parent communications.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:


            Section A. Chapter 167, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 167.795, to read as follows:

            167.795. By July 1, 2013, each school district shall adopt a policy on school records and school communications with parents who have joint legal custody or joint physical custody of students attending school in the district. Policies shall state that each parent with joint custody is to receive a copy of the pupil's report card, progress reports, permission slips, and any other communication between a school and parents. In order to receive records and communications as provided in this section, at least one parent shall be required to provide the school with a certified copy of the court order awarding joint physical custody or joint legal custody to both parents.
