1.2relating to state government; modifying a proposed constitutional amendment
1.3to stop lawmakers from raising their own pay;amending Laws 2013, chapter
1.4124, section 2.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. Laws 2013, chapter 124, section 2, is amended to read:
1.7 Sec. 2. SCHEDULE AND QUESTION.
1.8(a) The proposed amendment must be submitted to the people at the 2016 general
1.9election. The question submitted must be:
1.10"Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to remove legislators' ability to set
1.11their own salaries, and instead establish an independent, citizens-only council to prescribe
1.12salaries for legislators?
1.15(b) The title required under Minnesota Statutes, section 204D.15, subdivision 1, for
1.16the question submitted to the people under paragraph (a) shall be: "Stop Lawmakers
1.17From Raising Their Own Pay."
1.18 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.
1.19Section 1 is effective January 1, 2017, if the constitutional amendment proposed in
1.20Laws 2013, chapter 124, section 1, is adopted by the voters. Section 1 supersedes and
1.21replaces Laws 2013, chapter 124, section 2.
