A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging our Indiana United
States Senators to support clean energy and climate change legislation.
Whereas,Clean energy and climate change legislation
will create up to 40,000 jobs in Indiana, including good-
paying manufacturing and construction jobs for workers
installing wind turbines, retrofitting buildings and building
the next generation of fuel efficient cars;
Whereas, Jobs created by clean energy and climate
change legislation will be less likely outsourced and will
create revenue and reduce unemployment in Indiana
communities;
Whereas, Clean energy and climate change legislation
will revolutionize the way our nation produces energy by
moving us to an 80% renewable energy standard by 2050;
Whereas, Clean energy and climate change legislation
will enhance our national security by reducing our reliance
on oil produced by countries unfriendly to the United States
and eliminate the need for American soldiers to engage in
conflicts over energy interests;
Whereas, Clean energy and climate change legislation will reduce greenhouse gas pollution 20% by 2020 and 83% by 2050, which reductions will avert the worst impacts of
climate change; and
Whereas, Clean energy and climate change legislation
will allocate funds towards upgrading our nation's electrical
grid and creating a modern 'supergrid,' which, over decades,
will save hundreds of billions of dollars of our nation's
energy costs: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That this Resolution urges our Indiana United States
Senators to support clean energy and climate change legislation.
SECTION 2 That the Secretary of the Senate immediately
transmit copies of this Resolution to Indiana's United States Senators,
the Honorable Richard Lugar and the Honorable Evan Bayh.
